It's that time of year again. People are putting on their coats and scarves. Christmas decorations are popping up all over town. In this season of giving, give a dog the gift of a warm winter!
Located in the mountains of Sanzhi, northern Taiwan, the Pack's dog shelter is exposed to sea winds and frequent rain. Temperatures often drop below 10 C. Such cold, damp conditions stretch for four months before springtime arrives.
At the shelter, older and less robust dogs are moved indoors, where they can be kept warm with heat lamps. In jthe outdoor gardens, movable tents shield the puppos from the harsh weather.
The cost of keeping a dog warm in winter is over NT$2,000 per month per dog on average, including NT$1,000 for high-calorie food, NT$600 for heating and NT$200 each for a dog bed and a sweater.
As we look forward to the festive season and gatherings of family and friends, the dogs at the shelter are going into winter coping mode and preparing to endure the chilly months ahead.
Being rescued was the first step in their happy-ending story. They need you to write the next chapter. Please act today and give a dog a warm winter!
